TRADITIONAL LISTED COTTAGE WITH LOVELY SEA
VIEWS
VERY ROMANTIC
2 BEDROOMS – SLEEPS 4
“The Gingerbread House” has stunning sea views
from its idyllic sheltered southerly aspect. The owners have
renovated this pretty cottage, once the village bake house,
lovingly and sympathetically. Comfortable, quality furnishings
enhance its original features.
The cottage is equally suitable for families, friends or couples
in search of a quality holiday. It is available all year round.
At the front is a pretty terrace, bathed in sunshine and
surrounded by flowers, looking straight over the view - a wonderful
spot for morning coffee and the newspaper.
Step inside into a cosy beamed sitting room from
which you can enjoy views of the sea from an antique rocking chair.
The glow and warmth of a traditional coal fire may temp you to stay
at home for a romantic evening.
Music and television are discreetly hidden away but can be
ingeniously revealed from a double-sided cupboard for watching or
listening in both rooms.
The kitchen / dining room is well equipped, has a pine
table and chairs and wooden floors. It is tastefully decorated with
lots of finishing touches. Upstairs, the bathroom is quite
exceptionally spacious with a Victorian free-standing, "roll top"
slipper bath. There is also a shower cubicle and W.C. Pretty hand
painted pottery adds to the atmosphere of this room. The double
bedroom has wonderful views of the sea and village below. These
views are extended in "the room at the top", a picturesque twin
bedroom with beams & rafters. Access is by way of a 'secret
staircase' from either the bathroom or the bedroom. The theme is
nautical. The door is counterbalanced on pulleys making it a
special experience for adults or a safe den for children to sleep
and play.
Location
St. Mawes is a picturesque waterside village, offering
its own safe sandy beaches, boating, fishing, walks and fine
sailing waters. Small shops, pubs and restaurants nestle around the
harbour. The beaches and walks of the unspoiled Roseland Peninsula
are within easy reach; artists come here to paint and walkers can
explore some of the most fascinating corners of Cornwall.
When to visit
Spring arrives early in Cornwall when the area is
enhanced with magnolia, camellias, azaleas and beautiful early
blooms. Summer is generally hot, especially in St. Mawes with its
south facing beaches and sheltered village. Out-of-season it can be
delightful - the autumn evening light is magical and temperate days
can contribute to a most relaxing winter break.
Close by
Landscape artists and photographers agree that the
Roseland has an unparalleled variety of scenery and unspoilt
beauty. This area is right on your doorstep!
There is a good choice of local sandy beaches, all differing in
character and appeal, depending upon whether you want amenities for
children, unspoiled solitude for ‘chilling out’ or relaxing in the
sun enjoying a picnic.
There is a variety of pleasure boat trips on offer. A year round
passenger ferry service runs to Falmouth also visiting Smugglers
Cottage at Tolverne, Trelissick gardens and Mylor with its
beautiful walks on Trefusis Head. Falmouth has a wide selection of
nightlife, which is easily accessible by the water taxi that runs
from St. Mawes until the early hours of the morning.
The King Harry Car Ferry first crossed the river Fal in 1889 and
is one of only 6 chain ferries working in the U.K. It runs every 20
minutes and allows easy access to South-West Cornwall.
Food & Drink
Whether you need a traditional Cornish pub serving
quality food and real ale or would rather dine in a small
atmospheric bistro or wine bar or even splash out in a top class
restaurant there is something nearby for you. St Mawes itself has
an excellent selection or you could take a short drive (or taxi) to
a nearby village for alternative local Cornish fayre and
atmosphere. The speciality tends to be seafood - all deliciously
fresh and caught locally.
